Description:
Essaouira, or Mogador is an ancient fortress and fishing port located 2 hours drive from Marrakech, and considered one of the most popular excursions outside of the busy and bustling Marrakech.
From experience we can say that exploring Essaouira on your own is easy: The locals are very friendly, the Medina is quite small (compared to other old towns in Morocco), and its streets are in order. You definitely don’t need a guide for the city tour. If you insist on one, your driver will help you hire a local guide for the tour.
In its wide streets you will find a multitude of galleries, artisan workshops, small shops of all kinds, cafes and restaurants. You can enter through one of the three gates of Essaouira: Bab Sbâa, Bab Marrakech and Bab Doukkala. There is no traffic in this area, so you can walk quietly.
In the late afternoon, return to Marrakech, and your day visit to Essaouira will end with return to the Riad.
